I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Rick up in London's Regents Park, before heading to Camden tube where some of his work was projected on screens in a poem-film manifestation - "a colour therapy for commuters," part of the Smile for London project.

At the end of last year I was asked to contribute to VW's project for Active Resistance - change through art. Her manifesto was simple, encouraging the pursuit of culture and art to provide an antidote to propaganda:

"You get out of life what you put in and that real experience of the world involves thinking [...] No art, no true progress." Vivenne Westwood

At the time, the Tory government were trying to pass a bill which would give them more control to sell off woodland looked after by the Forestry Commission. There was a huge campaign against this, and ultimately, the People were successful in blocking it and forcing the government to back-down.

This image, to me, served to represent the intrinsic role of trees at the heart of the eco-system, and Life. Subsequent to the success of the campaign against the government's bill, it also became a fitting testament to the active resistance by the people in protecting what belongs to everyone, not the government.

I think Roy Ayers' "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" was one of the first records I ever owned, so it was a real treat to hear him playing it live in St Saviour's Church in Little Venice. 70 years old and still going strong..

Resting on a fault-line, Chile's home to 10% of the worlds volcanoes, 150 of which are bubbling away. Landscapes take you from the dawn of the ice-age to post-apocalyptic surreal beauty...
